The Worst Hospital Ever!.
This hospital is relatively clean and cheap. That's all the good points. There are a few nurses who care and do an adequate job but unfortunately this hospital has more than it's fair share of unprofessional, rude and racist nurses and doctors, not willing to do their jobs properly.
My wife and I had the misfortune of choosing this place for her to give birth...big mistake!
When her contractions became a little more regular she was taken away. Even though she hadn't begun labour I was only allowed to talk with her through a door with bars on the window for a brief period. When I asked if I could see her I was dismissively sent away and told that I couldn't as the area was sanitized! Yet in vastly superior and more modern hospitals that isn't an issue.
The doctor (Dr Lee) told me 'it's hard to accept what you don't understand.' she then proceeded to tell me how she had 40 years experience as a doctor......I don't know who she was trying to impress. I wasn't, we got into a small argument and she lost her temper, threw a tantrum and stormed off like a child! I was really surprised. My wife at this point had gone into labour but instead of helping her she decided to harass my wife and talk badly about me behind my back further adding to the stress of labour. Dr Lee was so unprofessional that she decided to carry on harassing my wife and insulting me behind my back for the entire duration of the labour and even after delivery! Not only that but she even called in other nurses to witness her unprofessional behaviour including making racist comments about me. When my daughter was born I got to see her for about 30 seconds through a glass door and then I didn't see her again for over 24 hours.
This is just a fraction of the bad experience I've had here, the organization is bad and communication is awful here. You get treated really, really badly. When I asked the Pediatrician Dr Gonzales very politely and diplomatically where I could make a suggestion for the hospital, he told me in front of other staff that they didn't want unsolicited advice! I even had a problem naming our baby girl and was given inaccurate information regarding the NSO. The appalling service and standards at this hospital are truly unbelievable. Dr Lee and some of her fellow incompetent colleagues managed to make what should be an amazing experience a horrible ordeal for both my wife and I. I would like to give this hospital zero stars if that was an option.
Worst Nursing Care Ever Experienced.
Worst nursing care I've ever experienced. No wonder it is the only hospital in the Lafayette, LA area that accepts TRICARE (military) insurance.
In the 32 hours I was there, there were only two of the 12 or so nurses that I dealt with that seemed to...1) care at all about what they were doing, and 2) know what they were doing. They were all very, very nice...but were about as competent as highly functioning retards. They're building that nice new facility on Ambassador Caffery which is great, but if they bring the same people over there it isn't going to be worth a damn. They didn't communicate with each other or my doctor. They didn't think that I may need some pain medication before pulling over 5 feet of packing gauze out of me that was packed while I was under general anaesthesia. They didn't think to show my wife how she would have to repack the wound twice daily for three weeks. The most common answer I got to any question was, "I don't know." They made me do stupid stuff like pee in a bottle so they could "keep a record" of how much I was urinating...but never came to empty the bottle or record how much I was urinating. All of this and I was in a room that was literally just in front of a nurses station on the 4th floor. Oh, and they prepared me for surgery in the recovery room! I got to see all these people coming back from surgery in all sorts of pain and discomfort as I'm getting ready to go to surgery. Talk about anxiety. I couldn't wait for them to put me under. Just a real unpleasant experience and I have been hospitalized before and experienced great care. The ONE compliment I could give them is that the ER was fantastic...nurses and doctors. Just hope they don't need to admit you.
We complained, they retaliated. My Mother was allowed to have my Dad by her side for 12 days in MICU 4th floor area. When we complained thatt she had been "placed" on hospice floor with no meds, we had a meeting with them. A so-called NUN sat in the meeting and lied that she did not know how we could get Mom's records so we could see what the heck was happening. I wonder who she calls her God.. My mother was NOT hospice. She didn't even have cancer!!!!! After we complained Dr. Girouard and the supervising nurse would not let my Dad stay with his DEPENDENT wife (my mother.) Needless to say, she died alone within 24 hours. They punished us!!!!
