So/So Food - Awesome Art :).
Family had dinner here last night on our road-trip from Austin to New Orleans. The restaurant is cute, honestly loved the little dog artwork everywhere. I wish I could say I loved the food as well, but I can't :/
*I grew up in West Baton Rouge where Cajun food is as common as Mexican food in Austin. That being said, I would never claim this food is"Cajun" . The food is NOT BAD it's just NOT Cajun.
To the details!
We had the Seafood Wontons for an appetizer - the wonton was eh, the filling is pretty yummy - not Cajun.
I had the Chicken Bayou Teche - flavorful, but in no way was it Cajun.
My Beeb had the Crawfish Enchiladas - so/so, certainly not Cajun!
The kiddie had fried shrimp (he is a fried shrimp fiend...) - he loved them :)
*We also took some dessert home and had it later that night (Bread Pudding with Pecan Praline Sauce & Pecan Pie).
Bread Pudding with Pecan Praline Sauce - I was pretty disappointed with this one. It's not bad, but its not awesome either. Actually it's pretty plain. I have eaten more bread pudding in my life than I care to admit to, so I don't fill like I am providing you with a newbie review.
Pecan Pie - so/so, but it's really hard to make a pecan pie that beats my Granny's :)
For the margarita lovers, The Dogrita is tasty but very low on alcohol content. Skip the extra calories and just have a glass of wine :/ (pains me to make that sort of recommendation!)
For my Austin peeps, if you have want a place of reference for comparison, I would say Gumbo's & Mama Roux's is a close one.
That DOES NOT mean this food is as good, only that it's the same type of food. So, since I am comparing them to these restaurants I would have to say DON'T GO! The cost is similar, but the quality is not. You will be very, very disappointed :(
Hope that helps.
Best in Town. The food at Blue Dog Cafe is exceptional. You will not find a better meal at a reasonable price in Lafayette. They always have great live bands on the weekends, and the drink specials are great especially happy hour, which is like 2-7 or something. If you've never eaten there you're missing out big time.
It's just OK. We LOVE blue dog. In fact we have a few! (Yes, I'm bragging!) I've wanted to stop in Layfayette for years to have a meal at the Blue Dog cafe. Last week, I was finally able to. The food was OK. The service was OK. That's about all I can say for this place. I'm glad I stopped to see this landmark but probably won't be making the trip again any time soon.....
One of My "Top 3 Favorites" in Lafayette. I just wrote a review for iMonelli and now I am writing one for Blue Dog Cafe. The food here is superb. ALL of their soups are fabulous and atmosphere is so reminiscent of New Orleans. Their Sunday brunch has one of the best spreads I have ever seen on this side of the Mississippi River. I highly recommend this place. Go and see!
Great food and atmosphere. Great atmosphere, tasteful live music, love the paintings. Oh yeah the food is good also. service was excellent. all in all a great dining experience. I will return. again and again.
one word...AWESOME. This place has it all going for them....great atmosphere...great music....great food...good prices....friendly wait staff and did I mention...good food!??
The band and the food was superb. My girlfriend to me to get some drinks with some friends and we decided on the Blue Dog Cafe. I was impressed with the artwork becasue it is everywhere in the restraunt. The Bartenders made some great drinks. The staff was very accomodating by ensuring that we were satisfied. The band which was a trio, played some great music. Acid Jazz on a Saturday night made it special. We ate the Won Ton, Treasures of the sea and the Gumbo was perfect!
Get the Seafood Wontons. I am addicted to the seafood wontons at Blue Dog. The raspberry sauce they are served with make this the best appetizer I've ever eaten. Everything I've eaten there has been wonderful. My favs: Stuffed Shrimp (it come with "Dirty Dog Rice" and boy is that stuff good), Catfish Blue Dog (Fried catfish w/etouffe on top), corn & crab bisque, cram meat florintine (it has sooo much cheese). I could go on and on. The menu is extensive and they serve everything like it's there specialty any time of day. The service is always good. If it's a pretty day ask for the patio, it's usually empty or close to empty and the service is just as good out there. The brunch the best I've ever had but make reservations. Management is alway hands on to make sure your dining experience is spectacular.
WOW, Excellent Local Cuisine. It is because of citysearch I even bothered to try this place out. The locals had informed me it was a "must" and truly lived up to the hype. The food, ambiance, service all combined for what was a wonderful dinner. The grilled catfish and seafood bisque is to die for, and having little bites of some of the other entrees around me, it would seem almost everything is highly regarded. I encourage anyone passing through Lafeyette, LA to stop by for a bite.
A feast for the eyes and the palate. Blue Dog is such a treat! When you enter the restaurant you get to admire the famous "Blue Dog" paintings by Lafayette artist George Rodrigue. Then comes the food which is incredible. The Seafood Wontons are just fabulous, the Sherwood Forest Brie Bisque is probably one of the best things I have EVER eaten at any restaurant and the Crabmeat Florentine and Crawfish Tasso Alfredo are flat out great! The service has always been friendly although the place loses a couple of points for ambience since it can get a bit loud and is not exactly a place for intimate conversation. However, don't let that deter you from going; the food is just too good to miss!!
